Fungi~~

Assalamualaikum and Good Morning Dr. Wan! J

The fourth topic of Microbial Systematic is Fungi.

In this lecture, Dr Wan told us the zoonosis is the disease transmitted through animal while mycosis is disease that infected by fungi. The first part of the body that infected when spores first entered our body is LUNG! In fungi also, there are no contamination occured even though there were different color in the agar plate.  Agar for fungi is Potato Dextrose Agar.

There are three types of asexual reproduction :
        I.            Bud formation in yeast
      II.            Fragmentation
    III.            Sporulation

There are five types/morphology of spores :
        I.            Arthrospore ; produce by splitting of hypha
II.            Chlamydospore ; surrounded by thick cell wall
III.            Sporangiospore ; within a sac at hyphal tip
IV.            Cinidiospore ; not enclosed in sac produced at the tips/side of hypha
      V.            Blastospore ; produced by mother cell by budding

True fungi are categorized into :
        I.            Zygomycota
      II.            Ascomycota
    III.            Basidiomycota
    IV.            Chytridiomycetes
      V.            Deuteromycota

Fungi imperfect is Deuteromycota

Fungus-like (slime molds and water molds) are :
        I.            Myxomycota
      II.            Acrasiomycota
    III.            Oomycota

There are some beneficial of this fungi such as in industrial, agriculture and bioremediation. On the other hand, fungus also harmful to us as there are pathogen to plant, human and animals.

Till we meet again, BYE! J
